Yesterday I asked you to tell me what your lead magnet is.
Some of you replied. A few had something specific. Most described something general.
"Tips for growing your audience." "A guide to getting started with X." "My productivity system."
Those are not lead magnets. Those are topics.
A lead magnet is a trade. Someone gives you their email address. You give them something specific enough that they would have paid for it if you had asked.
The specificity is the value. Without it, the trade does not make sense.
If you want to know more about X secrets! Ask Yvonne on X.
Here is the difference in practice.
"5 tips for better content" is a topic. It attracts everyone loosely interested in content and converts almost none of them because it promises nothing precise.
"The exact DM script I used to get my first three paid clients with zero followers" is a trade. One person. One problem. One outcome. The person who needs that script will give you their email address without hesitating.
The narrower the lead magnet, the higher the conversion rate. This runs counter to every instinct that says broader reach means more subscribers.
Broad reach means more people see it. Specific offer means more of them actually sign up.

Moda is the AI design agent with taste
Moda's viral launch hit 4.4 million views in two days. Tens of thousands of professionals signed up. Startups, agencies, forward-thinking brands and top firms are now using Moda to create brand-aligned slides, ad creative, reports, social carousels and more.
Most AI tools tend to create what we call "AI slop": repetitions of the same colors, layouts and fonts. And when you try to fix it, you get stuck in a loop of re-prompting.
Moda is different. Drop in your website URL, and Moda learns your brand from the ground up: your colors, your fonts, your visual language. Then it helps you generate pro-quality slides, docs, and marketing assets.
The best part? Every layer is fully editable on a real canvas, and exports to powerpoint, PDF and more.
Most people who struggle to build a list are not struggling because they lack an audience.
They are struggling because their lead magnet is a topic dressed up as a solution.
The reader arrives, sees something vague, and decides the trade is not worth it.
You lost them before you had them.
YOUR MICRO-ACTION
Take whatever lead magnet you have or are thinking about and run it through this test.
Can you name the exact person this is for? Not "entrepreneurs" or "content creators." One specific person in one specific situation.
Can you name the exact problem it solves? Not "helps with growth." The precise thing it removes or answers.
If both answers are yes, your lead magnet is specific enough to convert.
If either answer is vague, that is why the list is not growing.
Rewrite the title of your lead magnet so both answers are visible in the words. Reply and show me the before and after.
